Build evidence for the three current portfolio domains

The 2026/27 guide replaces the previous four-domain arrangement. Use its current indicators and mandatory evidence, with an index sheet and your strongest eligible achievement for each domain. Explain what you contributed and what changed.

Knowledge, Skills and Development

This domain includes operative involvement and a completed surgical taster or elective. Use the official tables for the applicable case band and placement requirements.

Strong evidence
  • An eLogbook consolidation report, signed on every page, and a factual placement letter with dates, learning and supervisor details.
Weak evidence
  • Unverified case totals, observed cases counted as assisted, or a booking email presented as a completed placement.
How to close the gap
  • Check the underlying records with your supervisor and obtain verification before upload. Check the taster timing note before booking a 2027 placement for points.

Patients, Partnership and Communication

Teaching, publications, presentations and eligible communication projects now sit together. Choose the strongest qualifying example rather than adding separate old teaching and publication scores.

Strong evidence
  • Clear evidence of your role, the completed output and its effect, with the category-specific proof and feedback required by the guide.
Weak evidence
  • A long list of outputs without a selected claim, unclear authorship or unverified assertions about impact.
How to close the gap
  • Choose one example you can explain clearly: the need, your contribution, evidence of benefit and what you learned. Ask a supervisor to check every claimed detail.

Colleagues, Culture and Safety

QI and audit evidence belongs here. Distinguish leading from contributing, show the change achieved and include evidence of any presentation you claim.

Strong evidence
  • A signed account of your role, baseline and follow-up results, the actual intervention, and presentation evidence where applicable.
Weak evidence
  • Data collection described as leading, a planned second cycle described as complete, or a presentation claim with no supporting record.
How to close the gap
  • Finish a useful, achievable part of the work, explain its limitations and select the indicator that matches what you actually completed.
