Paediatrics ST1

Review your written examples against the published shortlisting rubric.

Written-rubric self-checkYour estimate, based on your answers.
Before you begin

Understand what your estimate includes.

Written-application rubric self-check, maximum 30 per assessor. Two clinical assessors independently judge the quality, relevance and reflection in your descriptions; this estimate does not predict their combined score out of 60. No supporting documents are uploaded for shortlisting: evidence means your written examples. Follow each 50-word text-box limit. Shortlisting marks are not added to the interview total, but the applicant guide includes the shortlist score among tie-break criteria.

1. Transferable clinical capabilities

0 / 8 points
Transferable clinical capabilities

What this domain requires

Up to five specific capability descriptions and reflections showing relevance to paediatrics. Each description and preparation/reflection text box has a 50-word limit.

Evidence and scoring rules

Maximum two practical clinical procedures. Higher tiers require distinctly different capabilities, not multiple accounts of the same capability. Assessors judge clarity and relevance.

Your written-example self-check

Choose the descriptor that best matches your written example. Your assessment may differ from the assessor's mark.

2. Personal achievements and reflection

0 / 8 points
Personal achievements and reflection

What this domain requires

Up to five medical/non-medical or personal/team achievements, with specific relevance and reflection. Describe personal development or impact on others within the text-box limits.

Evidence and scoring rules

Do not reuse clinical-capability examples. Five examples with repetition are not five distinctly different achievements; the official glossary gives six as a maximum for that pattern.

Choose the descriptor that best matches your written example. Your assessment may differ from the assessor's mark.

3. Quality improvement and audit

0 / 5 points
Quality improvement and audit

What this domain requires

Describe up to two projects; only the best is marked. Explain your role and how/where you presented, with results, recommendations or practice changes.

Evidence and scoring rules

Describe how you planned/coordinated; a bare assertion is insufficient. Audit should use standards and a defined population; QI needs evidence-based methods. You need not claim a completed second cycle when only recommendations are being described.

Choose the descriptor that best matches your written example. Your assessment may differ from the assessor's mark.

4. Research and academic achievements

0 / 4 points
Research and academic achievements

What this domain requires

Describe up to two examples; the best is marked. Explain your exact research role. Name a qualifying research award at the end of the final research text box if claiming the extra point.

Evidence and scoring rules

Research qualification adds one to the achievement score; it does not automatically earn four. Research MD means a university original-research award of at least two years, not a training-pathway dissertation.

Choose the descriptor that best matches your written example. Your assessment may differ from the assessor's mark.

5. Education and teaching

0 / 5 points
Education and teaching

What this domain requires

Describe up to two examples; the best is marked. Explain the teaching, your contribution, evaluation and subsequent modifications, within the 50-word boxes.

Evidence and scoring rules

Explain how you designed, led and delivered; job title or a bare assertion does not earn the descriptor. Evaluation and using feedback are separate steps.
