What a strong answer needs to show

Choose evidence with relevance

The panel scores achievements in light of experience and circumstances, not the number of lines in a CV.

  • Open with one sentence on the physician capabilities your examples demonstrate.
  • Use two or three achievements: name your role, outcome and relevance.
  • Credit the team and state what you learned; non-physician work can show transferable skills.

Use the two minutes deliberately

A workable editorial structure is 15 seconds of framing, about 90 seconds for evidence and a short closing link to IMT.

  • Time aloud and remove dates that do not change the point.
  • Keep one concrete detail per example for follow-up.
  • Stop cleanly rather than rush a fourth achievement after the warning.

Show informed suitability

The official assessment asks for knowledge of medicine, enthusiasm and a credible commitment to becoming a physician.

  • Explain what you observed on acute take, ward, clinic or MDT.
  • Acknowledge uncertainty, on-call service and examination demands.
  • Connect an actual experience to the skills you still need to develop.

Original practice questions

Questions worth practising aloud

These are original preparation prompts written around published domains and entry-level expectations. They are not recalled interview questions.

  1. Give a two-minute overview of the achievements most relevant to internal medicine.
  2. Which clinical experience changed how you think about the acute medical take?
  3. What in your work shows readiness to manage uncertainty with supervision?
  4. Why IMT rather than an alternative route that interests you?
  5. What would your team say you need to improve before becoming a medical registrar?

Common mistakes

Where otherwise good answers lose clarity

  • Reading an application score aloud as if it were the interview answer.
  • A polished list with no personal contribution.
  • Claiming independent registrar competence at CT1 entry.
  • Describing medicine only as broad and interesting without a specific patient or team example.

Preparation plan

How to practise this deliberately

  • Draft a two-minute version and a shorter interruption-safe version.
  • Check every claim against a document or witness.
  • Ask an IMT and a medical registrar about the actual work.
  • Use the parent hub's evidence pack before practising original prompts.
